Mｔ．Iwabitsu is a rocky mountain of 803m above sea level and known as a beauty spot representing the Agatsuma eight beauty spots. The southern aspect has a precipice of approximately 200m and the sheer figure of a mountain consisting of mysterious rocks such as the Chinese southern school of Chinese painting is tasteful. And Mt.Iwabitsu is chosen in "100 top mountains of Gunma". The view from the mountaintop is splendid, and the mountains of Joshu spread under your nose and you can see Mt Fuji on the fine day.
In addition, there is Iwabitsu-castle trace which is well known by TV program "Sanadamaru" in the halfway of the east side of Mt.Iwabitsu. Iwabitsu-castle occupied the important position as the halfway point that bound Ueda-castle and Numata-castle together after 1563 under rule of Sanada. Vertical moat and holizontal moat established lengthwise and breadthwise stay clearly and understand that it was a strong mountain-castle well even now.
In the Hirasawa starting point of a mountain climb, some volunteer guides are resident there and you can hear an interesting story about Iwabitsu-castle.
岩櫃山は標高803mの岩山で、吾妻八景を代表する景勝地として知られています。 南面は約200mの絶壁で、奇岩、怪岩からなる切り立った山容は、中国の南画のような趣があり、「ぐんま百名山」にも選ばれています。 山頂からの眺望は素晴らしく、眼前には上州の山々が広がり、晴れた日には富士山も望めます。
また、岩櫃山の中腹東面には、大河ドラマ「真田丸」でよく出てくる岩櫃城の城跡があります。 岩櫃城は永禄6年（1563年）真田氏の支配下になってから、上田城と沼田城を結ぶ中間地点として重要な位置を占めてきました。 現在でも、縦横に築かれた竪堀、横堀がはっきりと残っており、堅固な山城であったことがよく分かります。
平沢登山口には、ボランティアガイドさんが常駐しており、岩櫃城に関わる興味深い話を聞くことが出来ます。
キャッシュは岩櫃山の山頂に隠しました。 登山ルートには岩場など危険な所がありますので十分注意して登ってください。
