Welcome to the solar system! This series of Geocaches is a virtual scale tour of our solar system to show the vastly enormous distances between the planets. And this is just the first steps into our own backyard in space! This series consists of The Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. In order to find the Sun, you must visit all ten other caches and get a number from inside of each, and plug them into the puzzle to find the Sun.
Uranus has twenty seven known moons, however it spins on it’s side. Some other object must have crashed into it tilting it sideways. Uranus has rings but they are small and dark. Uranus is considered an ice giant, mostly made of an atmosphere of hydrogen and helium, a layer of water methane and ammonia ices, and a core of rock and possibly ice.
At this scale, Uranus is about 22 inches in diameter, almost two feet and the sun is 50 feet in diameter and 19 miles away from here! You cannot see the Jones beach water tower from here, but you can see the Robert Moses Water tower which can also be seen from Saturn.
Please enjoy finding all the the caches in this series and don't forget to get the number from inside the cache to find the sun!
