Quite by accident, I discovered this quaint little cemetery on the top of a hill not too far from Highway 2. Officially called Highland Cemetery, it is also sometimes called the Baird Cemetery. No one is sure of the exact number of graves, but the best estimate is around 333, many of them without names or unreadable. The cemetery was established in 1898 with stones dated from the 1800s through just recent additions. Despite the presence of some rather tall cheat grass, it is easy to see that the grounds are still being maintained. As you wander around and enjoy the quiet serenity of this cemetery, you can't help but notice the beautiful view of nothing but rolling hills of acre upon acre of wheat fields dotted with the occasional farmhouse. I enjoyed reading so many names that are no longer used. Such as Maud, Wilfred, Efie, Myrtle and Mabel. I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I did.
