Geocache Description:

Rudolfina - zaboravljena cesta ...

Rudolfina - the forgotten road...

HR

EN

The branch of Jozefina road from Josipdol over Velika Kapela and Ogulin (ascends to even 1,083 m a/s) to Novi Vinodolski was built in 1871 on the initiative of the Croatian Ban Ivan Mažuranić. The road was named after the son of Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I. From Ogulin to the sea the road is 68 km long and it was fully paved only in 2005.

The most beautiful part of Rudolfina goes through open meadows with views of the Kvarner bay and the islands of Krk, Cres and Lošinj. The fertile soil on the flat bottom of the bay was once widely cultivated, but today most of Pleteno is covered with meadows and abandoned pastures with rich flora on which graze freely-wild herd of horses.
