The branch of Jozefina road from Josipdol over Velika Kapela and Ogulin (ascends to even 1,083 m a/s) to Novi Vinodolski was built in 1871 on the initiative of the Croatian Ban Ivan Mažuranić. The road was named after the son of Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I. From Ogulin to the sea the road is 68 km long and it was fully paved only in 2005.
At an altitude of about five hundred meters, Bater is situated, a small village of about twenty houses. The manner of their construction indicates that the coast is already close, but the piles of logs in yards warn that winter here can be very cold. Below Bater the road runs between craggy hips sprayed with coastal pinesand after a steep slope arrives of Burnjak arrives above the village Ledenice.
