Geocache Description:

Placed with the permission of the Forestry Commission.  Please respect the land as you go on your adventure!

Hamish and Hazel, two haggis children went to a great haggis gathering – a picnic in Aberdeen.  They wandered off and as children often do but were left behind by their huge family in the confusion of packing up.  Follow their adventures around Aberdeenshire as they track down their family and meet some new friends along the way.  The rhymes contain a mixture of Scots and the local dialect, Doric.  Translations are available at the bottom!

If ye gang doon tae the wids the day
Yer gaun tae hae a surprise
Fur Hazel and Hamish went tae play
And they cuidnae believe their eyes

Fur as soon As Auld Fergal gaed a toot
Then oot fae the trees some teddies cam oot
And they said tae them “Come awa and jine oor picnic!”

So they stopped and jined the teddy bears wi Irn Bru an’ jelly
An’ aa fine scran that Hagglets love tae stuff intae their belly
Wi stappit wames they stottered aff saying “Cheerio!” tae aa
Noo tae find their Auntie Freda the Haggii gaed awa

“Noo yer Auntie’s aye greetin and girnin, her banes are aye affa sair
“So we’ll bring her some herbs tae sooth her, we’ll find heaps doon ower there!”

So while some herbs they’re aff tae find
Go seek the laddie that bade behind!

Translation:  If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise, because the two Hagglets went to play and they couldn’t believe what they saw.  Uncle Fergal the haggis gave a whistle and lots of teddy bears came out and asked them to join in with their picnic.  The Haggii joined the picnic and had some carbonated Scottish beverage and jelly and lots of fine food.  With full stomachs they staggered off, bidding farewell to the bears and to find Auntie Freda the Haggis.  Uncle Fergal warned them that their aunt is always complaining about her sore bones so they headed on to find some herbs to sooth her.
