This is part of a bird oriented series that concentrates on species that occur in the state of Louisiana at least for part of the year (primarily during nesting season).
The Prothonotary Warbler (Protonotaria citrea) is a bright golden-yellow wood warbler with grayish wings. Often called swamp canary for it coloration and habitat being cypress-tupelo swamps.
This bird nests in hollow trees and therefore with utilize nest boxes. Nest boxes are placed in many areas of the Brownell Memorial Park which is also a bird sanctuary. Many of these birds have been marked with color bands as part of an ongoing study.
