Geocache Description:

Welcome to The Bridge of Names in the historic villiage of Lake Pleasant, Montague.  Please restirict caching to daylight hours, obey all signage and be mindful of your approach as roads in this quaint community are narrow.

Cache is log only so BYOP.

The Bridge of Names is a standing record of past and present residents of Lake Pleasant, although it has been reported that at one point you could pay to add any name you wanted. The original footbridge constructed in 1888 connected the 2 halves of Lake Pleasant. What started as a tent community of spiritualists swelled to a major center of religion and recreation by the early 1900's with a population of 3,000. Fire, declined interest in the practice of spiritualism and the conversion of the lake to municipal water supply eventually reshaped the area to the sleepy little village of 300 residents that it is today. In 1975, the Lake Pleasant Village Association rebuilt the closed bridge and maintain it to be enjoyed today. More detailed history of Lake Pleasant can be found in the book; "Spirit and Spa" By Louise Shattuck in collaboration with David James. CC courtesy of Punka13.
