Norman George Sheppard (N.G.) was the grandson of early settlers to the Eldorado area - George Sheppard and Susan Coster. George was employed as a carter of timber for mining shafts. When the squatters' leases came to an end George started to purchase 20 acres of prime land near Eldorado. Over the years he increased his land holdings - south of Eldorado, in Byawartha, Tarrawingee and Whitfield.
George and Susan raised 7 children, one of whom was George Alexander (1867-1941). George A. was educated at the nearby Carraragarmungee School. (I still can't understand how any child can be expected to spell that and I still can't pronounce it). He was a great inventor of farm machinery and settled on one of the properties "Horrocks" and purchased more land. He married a local girl Maud Bussell and they had two sons - Roy Maynard and Norman George (1911-1985). Norman G. married Joan Aldridge and their 4 children - Glenda, Wendy, Lynne and Kelvin still live and work in North East Victoria.
One of the acreages purchased or leased by George A. or son Norman G. was an 80 acre block on Seven Oaks Road and a second gate is still in-situ on the corner of that property.
Seven Oaks Road, now a "No Through Road" once extended quite a distance and there was also a Seven Oaks Creek, Seven Oaks Gully, Seven Oaks Inn and Seven Oaks Hotel. Both Inn and Hotel no longer exist and the original route can only be guessed at.
