Geocache Description:

CACHEYAKING - THE FLOATELLA

One of the things that makes geocaching even more awesome, is combining it with other activities.  One of our favorite ways to geocache is to cache while kayaking.  Spierson82 & CanisMinor invite everyone the DuPage River in Plainfield to enjoy a lazy section of the river from Eaton Preserve Park at the north to the Rivertowne Parkway Canoe Launch in Riverside Park at the south.  Along the way, there are at least 25 caches - (as of the time we submit this event, and more are coming!) that vary in D/T, but most are pretty high.  There are some others along the river that are close enough to get within a very short walk from the banks, but that's up to you. See Bookmark List

This is a rather slow and lazy section of the DuPage. Water is on avg less than 3 ft, with a couple of sections around 4-5 ft, and only flows at around 3mph. If you've never "Cacheyaked before, this would be a great event to come try it out! Get your kayak, canoe, Huck Finn raft, or whatever, and come on down! Even of you do not want to get on the river, you are still welcome to attend but you'll be missing all the real fun.

The event schedule is as follows:

  • 8am - meet at posted coords
  • 8:30 - begin shuttling cars to the "Take Out Parking" (see waypoint)
  • 9:30 - back at posted coords we will gather for a group picture
  • 9:35 - set off from the launch point
  • Approx 12:00pm - stop for lunch at Lunch waypoint (optional)
  • Approx 12:30pm - leave lunch waypoint
  • Approx 4:00pm - reach Take Out Point

Note the following information:

  • All kayaks / canoes must have a 2016 Illinois Water Usage Stamp (stamps can be purchased at just about any place you can buy a fishing license. Cost $6.50 - have your make, model, color, and hull number ready). See Related Web Page
  • Alcohol is prohibited on Plainfield Park District Property - you have been warned!
  • All Illinois DNR Rules apply while in your watercraft - you have been warned!

Here's a list of suggested items to bring along:

  • Your GPS (duh!)
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect Repellent
  • Hat
  • Water shoes or old shoes you don't care about
  • Bottled water
  • Swim suit
  • Towel and dry clothes for afterwards
  • *Optional sack lunch

If you have a vehicle or trailer that can carry a few boats to help shuttle people around, please mention that in your Will Attend log.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you on July 17th!!
