[ITA] ORATORIO DI SAN BERNARDO
Nella campagna tra Ornavasso e Migiandone sorge l’oratorio di San Bernardo, ora sconsacrato ed in cattivo stato di conservazione.
La chiesetta molto semplice recava sull'altare l'immagine della B.V. Assunta, dipinta su tela, e ai lati due quadri in cui erano rappresentati S. Bernardo da Mentone e S. Nicolao. Dall'inventario del 1666 risulta che il quadro della Vergine era stato da poco collocato in quella sede e ciò può costituire un indizio interessante per la datazione della chiesa. Sul piazzale antistante l'Oratorio si erge tutt'ora una colonna sormontata da un crocifisso di ferro (originariamente di ottone). La chiesa è stata a lungo utilizzata come sede delle Rogazioni, che si svolgevano nelle campagne di Ornavasso per propiziare il buon andamento dei raccolti e che ebbero luogo fino al 1963.
Nello spiazzo vicino alla chiesa nel giugno del 1944 vennero barbaramente fucilati, ad opera dei tedeschi, quattro partigiani della divisione “Valtoce” ed un monumento ne ricorda il sacrificio.
Nei pressi della località fu inoltre portata alla luce alla fine del XIX secolo, ad opera dello studioso e storico Enrico Bianchetti, una necropoli formata da 181 tombe, individuata come cultura leponzio-celtica e tra le più importanti dell'Italia nord-occidentale per lo studio della civiltà pre-romana sulle Alpi.

[ENG] ORATORY OF SAINT BERNARD
The oratory of Saint Bernard lies in the farmland between Ornavasso and Migiandone. Nowadays it is deconsecrated and in a poor state of repair.
The small church was very simple and on the altar hung a picture of the Blessed Virgin Mary painted on canvas, while two other paintings representing St Bernard from Menton and St Nicholas were on the sides. Thanks to the inventory from 1666 it seems the painting of the Virgin Mary had been recently placed there and this could be an interesting clue for dating the church.
In the front yard there is a column with an iron crucifix on top – originally made out of brass. The church and its location had long been used during Rogation days which took place in the countryside around Ornavasso to propitiate a good harvest until 1963.
In the clearing next to the church four partisans belonging to the division “Valtoce” were savagely killed at the hands of the Germans in June 1944 and today a monument stands to remind their sacrifice.
Near this area a necropolis composed of 181 tombs was also discovered by the scholar and historian Enrico Bianchetti at the end of the XIXth century. This has been identified as belonging to the Lepontic-Celtic culture and it is among the most important of Northwest Italy for the study of Pre-Roman civilisation on the Alps.
