Geocache Description:

This Geeocache is at the site of a historical building known as Park House.

Park house was a stateley home owned by the Allen family who were lords of Stillorgan in the 1600s. Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver's Travels was one of the many famous guests to have visited the house. When John Allen died in the 1700s his daughter Elizabeth Allen inherited all the estates around Stillorgan. She married Colonel John Proby- he was a military man who had been awarded many honours in his lifetime and was eventually made a baron who took the name Lord Carysfort.

There were a number of occupants in the house up until Arthur Lee Guinness owned it. He loved the house and tried to restore it to some of its former grandeur. once Arthur Guinness left the house in 1860 it fell into disrepair and then eventually to ruins. The house that stands today, Park House, is on the same site and uses some of the same materials as the original house.
