The trailhead for Section 4 begins on the other side of the gate at Old Holyoke Road. Please do not take the illegal ATV road. From Bush Notch northward, the trail climbs to the crest of East Mountain and follows its ridge, offering many views of Snake Pond and Hugh McLean Reservoir.
The trail can also be reached via Bear Hole Road. From Westfield/Route 20: Route 20 into West Springfield followed by a left onto Rogers Ave. Follow to the end, at the stop sign continue straight onto Bear Hole Road. Follow Bear Hole Road to the end where there is a gate. This is the parking area.
Joseph William Perkins (July 7, 1913 – March 21, 2011), known by the stage name Pinetop Perkins, was an American blues pianist. He played with some of the most influential blues and rock and roll performers in American history and received numerous honors during his lifetime, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the Blues Hall of Fame.
