Le cascate del Ghiaccione sono una piccola serie di cascatelle situate lungo il torrente Carbonaia nel comune di Chianni. Sono raggiungibili attraverso una traccia di sentiero che parte dalla strada provinciale che collega Chianni a Castellina Marittima, in corrispondenza del waypoint indicato. Il sentiero scende fino al torrente e lo segue; in alcuni tratti è necessario attraversarlo. Dopo pochi minuti si raggiunge la prima cascatella, una volta risalita si prosegue per il sentiero fino a raggiungere delle pozze e, finalmente, la cascata principale chiamata Tonfo degli Ebrei, così chiamata perché durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale alcuni Ebrei sarebbero stati da qui gettati. Qui c'è una pozza sufficientemente grande per fare il bagno anche se, come suggerisce il nome, l'acqua è molto fredda. Stando ad alcuni blog dovrebbe esistere una terza cascata chiamata Salto della Capra, che però non è accessibile dal sentiero.
La cache è situata qualche decina di metri a valle della cascata, sulla sponda sinistra del torrente. Potete aiutarvi con le foto spoiler visto che il gps balla parecchio. È una scatola in plastica di medie dimensioni, contenente logbook, matita, e oggetti per interscambio. Buona ricerca!
The Ghiaccione waterfalls are a small series of waterfalls located along the Carbonaia creek in the municipality of Chianni. They can be reached through a path trail that starts from the road connecting Chianni and Castellina Marittima, at the indicated waypoint. The trail goes down to the creek and follows it; in some places it is necessary to cross it. After a few minutes you reach the first waterfall, once you ascend it follow the path until you reach the pools and, finally, the main waterfall called Tonfo degli Ebrei (Thud of the Jews), so called because it was reported that some Jews were thrown down during WWII. Here there is a sufficiently large pool for swimming though, as the name suggests (Ghiaccio means ice!), the water is very cold. According to some blogs, there should be a third waterfall called Salto della Capra (Leap of the Goat), which is not accessible from the trail.
The cache is located a few tens of meters downstream from the waterfall, on the left bank of the stream. Spoiler photos will be helpful because the gps is quite erratic. It is a medium sized plastic box containing logbook, pencil, and interchange objects. Happy geocaching!
