The Great House is the home of the Lees of Virginia. Most of the house has been restored but there are a few areas which are still under renovation. The house is open for everyone to tour on July 4th (and a few other days through the year are free as well). At other times one can pay the entrance fee JUST for the grounds or pay a slightly higher fee to tour the house.
This cache is an easy one in a neat area close to the house. There was one close to here placed last year but is disappeared. So, now there is a new one for you to find.
A wheel chair can get almost to the cache but not quite able to reach it.
You can also visit the stables nearby and explore the Spring House, The Payne Cabin and other sights, Enjoy your visit. Stratford Hall was the home of the Lees of Virginia. Two of the sons were signers of the Declaration of Independence. Robert E Lee was the grandson of this family and son of "Lighthorse Harry Lee". The property consists of approximately 1,900 acres and has numerous trails, the restored home and a grist mill. Spend the day visiting this historical site AND find a number of geocaches. Some are on difficult trails and others are pretty easy to get to. If you wish to visit the grounds, there is an admission fee and if you chose to visit the house, it is slightly higher. There are cabins which can be rented and a restaurant on the property. SPECIAL NOTE; JULY 4 THERE IS NO ADMISSION FEE FOR THE GROUNDS OR THE HOUSE. Don't miss this opportunity. The normal admission fee is $7.00 for the grounds access. PLACED WITH PERMISSION
