Geocache Description:

Cache is above a natural pool in a rock canyon under a ledge.  Access is from the trail or from Lake Superior.

This is an incredible area with many natural caves along the waterfront.  Looking out onto Lake Superior there are islands in the distance.

From the parking waypoint looking toward Lake Superior, you will see a cliff on your left that I call Hercules Chair.  You need to go around this to get to the cache.

Traditional old style ammo box cache, loaded with treasure (well, interesting stuff).  Mitch, the dragon is rumored to live in the local caves. Some say that the 15 or so local basalt caves are 6,000 year old copper diggings. Your journey involves a bit of rock scrambling and takes you to the north end of the Old Mamainse Harbour where Arts and Adventure now resides. For many years, passenger and fishing boats came to a wharf built on top of the shoal -from the shoreline to Roussain Island.  There were many villages (native and frontier), tourist industries, Hudson Bay Post, graveyard, military rescue service and shooting range at the Old Mamainse Harbour. In the distance, you can see the Coppermine Point navigation light which defines Whitefish Bay, Canada side.   This is the closest point to the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, and near to where her life boat washed ashore.
