Come and explore an old forest camp that was abandoned long ago. There used to be lots of these strategically placed throughout the forest to provide a place to camp that has water and forage for horses. Coffman Camp, on the Plaza Trail, Rolling Riffle along the Salmon River, and one that's name has been lost about 5 miles up Eagle Creek, are a few that I can think of nearby. This one might have been abandoned in the 30s when Abbott Road went through and more accessible camps were developed along it.
The cache is not at the posted coordinates. Find the numbers tacked to trees to discover the where the box is hidden. If Your coming from the North along the Old Baldy Trail, go past the ruins of an old outhouse to Stage 1, the posted coords, ignoring the old eroded trail to the right. If your coming from the South, stop where the old eroded trail rejoins the less eroded trail. From here go to stage two, then stage three, ect. The next 6 stages will take you on a tour through this old camp. We found about a dozen fire pits around here. All of the stages except one are at the fire pits. That one is where the water is. At each stage (except stage 1) there is a number tacked to a tree, knee high or less. Use those #s to find the final.

Hope you have as much fun exploring around that we did. We found ourselves wondering what it was like 100 years ago here. The lookout on top was bran new then, and this may have served as a fire camp for firefighters waiting to be sent to a blaze, or a place for the pack trains to rest after leaving Fanton, on their way to the Plaza and beyond.
