Round valley in Morgan Utah is the current home for the Round Valley golf course. But this amazing place is also home to the Pioneer Cemetry and the oldest standing building in Morgan County.
South Round Valley School
A log school was built in 1870 and used until this rock school was built by Henry Olpin prior to 1879. In 1905 students were attending school in South Morgan. Also used for community functions and church meetings. It is the only remaining 1800's school/church in Morgan County.
South Round Valley Pioneer Cemetery
Follow the arrow for a short walk to the top of the small knoll across the road. The public has permission to access the Pioneer Cemetery. However, this is located on private property. Please respect the property and be sure to close the gate which is located just behind the "Dead End" road sign.
The exact location of the graves in South Round Valley are unknown since the fence and grave markers had been gone for decades and the area grazed by livestock. The site was relocated in 1998 and rededicated with a granite and bronze monument marking the site. This was a cooperative project of the Morgan County Historical Society and the Family of Samuel and Ellen Masser Carter.
A simple traditional cache was placed at this site, hidden in something that appears as old as the school building itself. Please respect the area and use gentle hands and feet as you search the area for the cache. I hope you enjoy the area and good luck in your Utah GeoTour caching adventures.
