Lähde on luonnollinen pohjaveden purkautumiskohta maan pinnalle. Luonnonlähteitä muodostuu, kun sadevesi hakeutuu kallioperän ruhjeeseen, harjuun tai muuhun maaperän huokoiseen osaan. Siihen, missä pohjaveden pinta osuu maanpintaan, syntyy lähde. Lähde ei koskaan jäädy jatkuvan maan alta tulevan virtauksen takia. Talvellakin lähdeveden lämpötila on noin + 4 °C. Maan alla virratessaan vesi liuottaa kivistä mineraaleja, joten lähdevettä pidetään terveellisenä. Vanhojen uskomusten mukaan lähdevettä on monesti pidetty jopa pyhänä ja itse lähteitä onnea tuottavina paikkoina. Lähdevettä onkin kautta aikojen käytetty monien tautien parantamiseen.
A spring is a ponit where groundwater flows out of the ground. Springs are formed when rainwater seeks its way to the cracks of the rock foundation as well as to the ground with porous soil, such as ridges. To the point where the groundwater level meets with the surface of the ground, a spring is formed. A spring never freezes because of the constant water stream from the underground. Even in the coldest wintertime the temperature of the spring water is + 4 °C.Minerals become dissolved in the water as it moves through the underground rocks and this is why spring water is considered very heathly. According to the old beliefs spring water has sometimes even been considered holy and the springs themselves to bring good fortune. Through out the times people have been using spring water as medicine to cure many different diseases, aches and pains.
