
Before the first bridge was built in 1935, ferryboats were the main source of transportation onto Pork Chop Island. The Ossian Bedell, which was named after the ferryboat company founder, was a powerhouse out on the Niagara River. Ossian Bedell (the man), also founder of the historical Bedell House, is buried in Whitehaven Cemetery located just up the road (see the coordinates listed below.)
