This cache is on the old railway line from Barnsley to Hull. This line existed to transport coal from the mines in South Yorkshire to the docks at Hull in the days this country sold its coal overseas.
Eastrington once had two railway stations, one remains whilst the other has now become 'Holmes Park', a cul-de-sac at the end of this footpath. There is gossip that some of the houses were built on the platform itself as a foundation - once moved in to the new owner wondered why the grass would not grow, only to find when he dug down that under 6 inches of soil was the platform!
