It's hard finding good spots. The locals always seem to know the best places to go though. Local knowledge is key. I was out walking the dog when I passed a man fishing off the beach near the listed coordinates. It was early morning and he was trying his luck for some King George Whiting, off the beach. 4 large fish already in the bucket was proof he was no novice. A keen angler myself, I started chatting with the man.
His name was Micha or Mishca or something? A Polish name I think. He had a bit of an accent. Turned out to be a real champ. He told me some inside tips on what baits and lures he was using. I decided to ask him if he knew any good places nearby to catch squid. He hesitated for a second and I figured he didn't want to tell me. Most fishermen guard their spots fiercely. But to my surprise he said "OK, you have pen? I write down for you".
Now given that I'm a geocacher of course I had a pen. I even had a scrap of paper. So he started writing. I couldn't see what he was writing. GPS coordinates? Directions? Was he drawing a map? All I knew was he was writing a lot. Finally after what seemed like a full minute, he finished writing and handed me the paper, smiling. I took a few seconds looking at it perplexed before I asked him politely what was I looking at? "Is spot. Good spot, lots of squids." He replied. I was still confused. Micha could obviously see that. "Not far from here friend, just follow instructions. You catch many squid." He said, smiling. I just nodded, smiled and thanked him. To be fair, I'd bothered him enough. He probably just wanted some peace & quiet.
