A short circular walk along the newly created footpath from the view point above the Horseshoe Falls, along the riverside path to Llantysilio church and back along the top path with lovely views along the Dee valley.
Both the feeder cache as the final are next to the footpath. Please do not cross over any fences or bushwack. If in doubt use the hints.
This is a short circular walk along the River Dee taking in the beautiful Horseshoe Falls and Llantysilio church. This footpath has recently been upgraded by Denbighshire Council and apart from the descent down to the river which is grassy the paths are hardpack. Toilet facilities are available at the carpark. Bring a picnic and enjoy a relaxing time here in the parkland.
The Horseshoe Falls are a manmade weir that is in the shape of a horseshoe. It was built in 1808 as a vital part to the construction of the Llangollen Canal. The weir makes water pool behind it and so controls the water entering the canal. Since 2009, the weir has been part of a World Heritage Site, which covers 11 miles of the Llangollen Canal from just west of Horseshoe Falls to just beyond the Chirk Aqueduct. The canal was awarded World Heritage status because of the bold civil engineering solutions needed to construct a canal with no locks through such difficult terrain.
