About Slavija Square:
Slavija Square has been recently renovated and now in the middle of the square you can see a big musical colorful fountain instead of monument of Dimitrije Tucovic.
So, the history of the busiest and most dangerous roundabout is quite varied and dramatic - with people originally going hunting there, later going to various cafes to have fun and today it represents one of the most important traffic spots in the capital.
This area used to be a swamp where Belgraders went hunting wild geese and other wildfowl.
Smaller buildings at the corner of Kralja Milana and the square, where the famous cafés "Tri seljaka" and "Rudničanin" used to be, were destroyed before and during World War II.
After World War II, the new communist regime renamed the square in 1947 in honour of prominent socialist figure, Dimitrije Tucović and placed a bronze bust of Tucović at the central square plateau. In the early 2000s it was officially changed back to Slavija.
