Iron Acton is situated just off the B4058 between Winterbourne and Yate in South Gloucestershire, and can easily be reached using the X46 Bristol to Yate bus service.
The village takes its name from the iron that used to be mined nearby and 'acton' means 'farm with oak trees'. The village has two tudor manors, Acton Court and Algars Manor, as well as the church of St James the Less, notable in particular for its medieval preaching cross in the churchyard. Sports presenter John Inverdale grew up in the village, close to the location of this first cache, and was a former member of local players the Actonians. The members of local fundraising group Acton Aid organise a popular calendar of annual events including May Day on the Green, the Mash and Prom in the Meadow.
The first cache in this series is in a quiet spot in the residential heart of the village, close to the village green with its may pole, which features in the annual may day celebrations. The cache is mostly screened from the direct sight-line of neighbouring houses, but beware the occasional muggle dog walker. You may need to negotiate parked cars.
