This cache is specially for our geocaching friend scubie999, who recently placed one of these containers after a trip to New Zealand. He is also a typical geocaching addict! Like us!!
You see plenty of these containers when caching Down Under and, much as our Antipodean cousins would like to claim them as their own (along with pavlova, cheeky Kiwis!!), an Eclipse tin is definitely a traditional Aussie cache.
It is also the archetypal example of the old saying that goes "You know you're a geocacher when..." because you can bet your bottom dollar that every Aussie and/or Kiwi cacher buys the mints for the tin! :)
Here are some other examples:
You know you're a geocacher when....
- you can't leave the house without your GPSr
- you spend an hour pacing back and forth in the same 20m radius
- someone asks you what you are doing and your immediate impulse is to think of a good cover story
- your new favourite shop sells camo tape AND tupperware
- you look at every tree, fence and park with an eye towards hiding your next cache
- you give visitors the coords to your house instead of the address
- you keep a geocaching kit bag in your car with extra logs, containers, duct tape, tweezers, magnets, mirror, torch and more
- you can read encrypted hints as quickly as unencrypted
- you plan your holidays around geocaching
- you begin referring to your children and pets with the prefix "Geo"
- you can't wait to get to work on Monday morning to log your caches
- you know which stores in your area have good offers on lock & lock containers
- half the phone numbers saved in your phone have caching names rather than real names next to them
- you lie in bed wide awake the entire night wondering where the blank that bleeping cache is!!
- you have an email address dedicated to notifications, that's sent to your smartphone
- you chose your last pair of shoes with caching in mind
- you constantly point out caches you've found when you're driving around town
- you have skipped work or school to go geocaching
- you have signed an official document using your geocaching name
- your homepage is GC.com
- you, your child, your car and/or your dog are trackable
How many of these statements ring true for you? C'mon, time to 'fess up.... Anything to add to the list? You know you have lots of things to add, don't you!?! If you feel like it, please include them in your log.
