Grotte G1/Cave nr 1
Innover Dumdalen ligg det eit ti-tals sereigne grotter. Dumdalsgrottene er dei best utvikla i heile Sør-Norge og har store geologiske kvalitetar. Dei vart danna på slutten av istida, for 10 000 år sidan. da isen trekte seg attende. Store mengder vatn trengde ned i sprekker i den mjuke bergrunnen og danna større og mindre gangar og rom.
Inside the Dumdalen Valley there are some ten caves. Dumdalsgrottene are the best specimen of caves in Southern Norway with outstanding geological characteristics. They were formed at the end of the last ice age when the ice receded 10 000 years ago. Large amounts of water pressed down into crevices to the soft layer of bedrock and made passages and chambers of many sizes.
