At the cache site is a mounted plaque that pays homage to our pioneer settlers. The council sign at the turn off gives the mistaken impression that this is a cemetary. In truth, there was a cemetary near this site in the dim and distant past, but it was closed and moved. The white coloured rock at the base of this monument is limestone. Once covetted by the Mount Morgan Gold Mine for it's gold processing plant, this is what was dug with picks, shovels, horses and carts and jellignite from the hill above this site. The mine worked 24 hours a day. The town once boasted a hospital and school, located not far from where you stand. It had several drinking establishments, a pool hall, three churches, a general store,a raliway station and a police station. There were dairy and crop farmers and even a Chinese market gardener here at one point. If you look carefully you can still see where some of their gardens were. This area is also home to a number of rock wallabies and pretty faced wallabies. They are wild animals and need to be given plenty of space. But they do make for a great photo if you can get to your camera's zoom button quickly enough.
Congratulations to bundyrumandcoke on being the first to find.
