Budleigh Salterton is an historic town nestling in a picturesque bay with a 2 mile pebble beach.
To quote the information board visited as part of this cache, Budleigh “described in 1818 as a resort well-suited to invalids and persons of retired habits, had by the mid-19th century developed into a handsome little town and bathing place”

The “Budleigh Pebbles” are famous in geological circles, the pebble beds having been created over 400 million years ago when sandstones in northern France eroded and were transported across the Triassic desert by ancient rivers, being tumbled into pebbles on the way.
Please note there is a local byelaw making the removal of pebbles from the beach illegal, which is enforced with a large fine per pebble!

The beach at Budleigh is very accessible and there is a large beach-side car-park at N50 37.830 W003 18.750 where this trail starts.
