Developed in the late 1800s, the Estonian Red is a cross of the native Estonian cattle, and the Angler cattle, a German breed that has been around for 5000 years. Later, this cow was crossed with the Dutch Red.
The Estonian Red is a medium sized animal and as its name suggests is red in color. On average the Estonian Red produces about the same amount of milk of a Milking Shorthorn or Guernsey, but still won't match the yield of the Holstein.
The idea of this series is a community project honoring the Bos among us.
As you drive the road, please feel free to place your own tribute cache to that great animal- the cow.
