Mr E Dwyer, who is a native of this spot, relates how he remembers his parents telling him as a child, that blacks from the west and from Hartley camped close to the Duckmaloi bank, on the big flat and held a corroboree. The name of the river comes from “wan-dak-ma-lai’ meaning “rocky bar across river.” The “wan” is believed to mean “west.”
