Geocache Description:

The S.S. Dorothy was brought to Colac in the early 1900’s as a pleasure boat for Lake Colac.

A team of 60 horses was used to haul the boat from a wharf in Melbourne to Colac, a total of 80 kilometers which took three weeks.  On that overland trip, the 25 ton boat did a lot of damage to roadways, pulled down a few telegraph wires, broke three bridges and overcame other obstacles.  It finally arrived in Colac and was duly launched into the lake.

The boat ran for two years, but by the third year it failed to attract enough customers to make enough money.  So it sat idle before eventually sinking into the muddy bed of the lake with the label of a financial failure.

And there it laid for years...merely a roost for birds, somewhere for mischievous youths to play on and a local council with absolutely no idea on what to do with it.  Until 45 years later (yes that’s right...45 years) the council decided to blow it up to remove it from the bottom of the lake.  That was the end of the SS Dorothy the pleasure craft of Lake Colac.

The posted co-ordinates will bring you to the Propeller from the Dorothy, and after some simple maths from the brass plaque.
