Groundspeak has announced the "HQ Duck Dash" and it promises to be *THE* geocaching "thing" of 2016. Don't know about the HQ Duck Dash? Well, you are in luck! Check it out here!
Now, about this event. In addition to socializing, it is about the Ducks. There will be cachers at this event who can help move them along, and will even be going to Mega events. This will give your Ducks access to a WHOLE LOTTA geocachers who will be going all over North America (and maybe the world!) before the Duck Dash finishes on August 20th.
Meet at the published coordinates in Brampton's Market Square (Queen Street and Main Street) at 7PM. The event will run until 7:30. Note that you don't have to bring a Duck for the Dash to come on out to this event! We would love to see you for any old reason!
Follow the directions below to get your Ducks registered, but please read the rules and the code of honor. And, most importantly, please make sure that your Duck trackable has no mileage on it when you hand it over. Don't "place it" into the event, or "visit" any other geocaches. Trackables that have mileage on them before July 20th will not be eligible for any honours or prizes. At this event, give your Duck to me (or any other cacher) who can help get it going far and fast.
On the 20th, I (or whomever you give the trackable to) will "grab" the Duck from you and have it visit a nearby cache before heading out on the road trip. That will give it a starting point in Brampton, and an end point of ...???
And, if you have any other trackables that you want to go to the Midwest Geobash, please bring them along to this event. I am happy to take them [as long as they aren't giant pink gorillas (monkeys4ever), big Panda bears (RCA777) or heavy rocks with TB#s painted on them (Mississauga Misftis), or similar sized/themed trackables...I have to cross an internationl border, eh?].
How to Join the HQ Duck Dash:
- Get a new unactivated trackable! Enter your duck-themed trackable or any other trackable without prior travel history. (Pro Tip: Do NOT place your trackable in a geocache until July 20, 2016 or later. Movement prior to this date may disqualify your trackable.)
- Activate it.
- Set your trackable’s mission. (Pro Tip: Include instructions to get your trackable to a geocaching event on August 20, International Geocaching Day.)
- Read the HQ Duck Dash Code of Honor. By entering a trackable into this year’s race, you agree to abide by these rules.
- Enter your trackable into the race by filling out this signup form by July 17, 2016. (The official Groundspeak Deadly Duck tags will be automatically entered into the race.) You must be 18 years or older to participate.
- Watch your trackable race to a geocaching event on International Geocaching Day!
Swing by between 7 and 7:30 PM to socialize with your fellow cachers, swap stories, and get your Ducks and other trackables moving. A group photo of the cachers and the trackables will be taken at 7:20 PM.
