W Polsce także noszono wówczas takie obuwie, które "zdobywano" głównie w wojskowych magazynach. W Jarocinie glany pojawiły się wraz z festiwalem muzyki rokowej. Pomnik cieszy się wielką popularnością nie tylko w lipcu, podczas festiwalu. Często wolontariusze przyozdabiają glana różnymi sznurówkami. Autorką pomysłu jest nieżyjąca już Felicja Pawlicka, siostra Burmistrza Jarocina, która zginęła w 2010 r. w wypadku samochodowym. Jej projekt został zrealizowany przez Małgorzatę Kruk i Jakuba Bogatko oraz jarocińską Fundację Ogród Marzeń, która wsparcie finansowe otrzymała z wielkopolskiego urzędu marszałkowskiego oraz od prywatnych sponsorów. Pomnik glana staje się wizytówką miasta, nazywanego często stolicą polskiego rocka.
