This is the lowest grade or Rank of Coal it only has a carbon reading between 60 and 70% also known as brown coal. SUB BITUMINOUS .... This grade of coal has a carbon content of about 75% . BITMINOUS ..... This type of coal is known as soft coal it is the most abundant coal , 50% of all the coal mined in the United States is bituminous . ANTHRACITE.... This is the highest grade of coal it has a carbon content over 87% is also known as hard coal .
