An historical sketch of an ancient Israelite Prophet: Nahum

Timeframe:

Nahum lived about 2600 years ago - about 600 B.C.

Family:

He was from the town of Alqosh, (Nah 1:1) which scholars have attempted to identify with several cities, including the modern Alqosh of Assyria and Capharnaum of northern Galilee.

Mission:

Nahum's prophecy centered upon the hostile city of Nineveh, where cruelty and oppression reigned supreme. Behold, "I will be against thee, saith Creator ... and it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee and say, 'Nineveh is laid waste; who will bemoan her?"
