Since this will also be a regular "picnic in the park" event, you are also welcome to come to the event. There is no requirement to participate in the Travel Bug race.
If you plan to participate in the race, you will need to do the following:
- Purchase a new, un-activated trackable.
- Activate the trackable but make sure you don't log any mileage on it.
- It must start off at zero in order to determine a true winner
All the travel bugs will be recorded and placed in Jewel&Gem's Travel Bug hotel located near the airport. This will make a great starting point for the race. On July 30, 2017, we will tally the mileage and a winner will be crowned (with a prize, of course)! A complete list of rules will be at the event. Just get your new travel bugs.
Now, if you aren't interested in the race, you can still come an enjoy a picnic in the park.
The picnic will begin near the posted coordinates around 10:30AM and run until 1PM or later, depending on the fun.
This will primarily be a bring-your-own-lunch affair so pack a lunch and a blanket and meet us all for a wonderful picnic. I will be BBQing a few hotdogs and have some timbits, water and juice. It's not much so you might still want to bring something.
What picnic would be complete without some recreation. If you have any sporting equipment (balls, gloves, frisbees, etc), please bring them along!
It is our hope that everyone who attends will have a wonderful time of fun and camaraderie.
Parking is available at the following coordinates:
N 47° 31.522
W 052° 45.423
While the longterm weather forecast may look good for the event, this is, after all, Newfoundland and the weather might change. In the event of rain, we will meet at these nearby coordinates:
N47° 31.862'
W52° 45.428'
We hope to see many of you, both experienced and new cachers! Don't forget to bring your pets as well!
