Long Island is the Pacific Coast's largest estuarine island and is part of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge. The island is 5,640 acres and includes a rare 274-acre remnant of old growth lowland coastal forest. Many of the red cedar trees in this grove are over 900 years old. From the cache location, continue east to see Long Island in the distance across the shallow estuary at the end of Willapa Bay.
Long Island can only be accessed by boat. Day use on Long Island is encouraged to minimize impacts on wildlife and their habitat; however camping is permitted on Long Island. Recreational activities include fishing, clamming, wildlife viewing and photography.
There is not really a view from here, but a nice trail area up the road to the east.
