One of the earliest boat building yards in East Lothian was established by William Weatherhead in 1880. There have been other boatyards, but none with the longevity of Weatherheads.
William Weatherhead started to build a traditional type of boat known as the Fifie. They were clinker built by, overlapped planks, and were fastened together by the overlap.
The firm continued until 1969. sadly the decline in the fishing industry, orders became fewer and the yard built their last boat in 1982.
The concrete base of the yard can be seen, and at low tide the slipway can be seen.
I had great fun playing here as a child and was chased away often, I liked the smell of the wood.
