Geocache Description:

The gates to the park are now closed for the winter, but you are welcome to park in the parking area south of the gate and walk to the 3 caches beyond the gate any time.

Chinook Park near Ilwaco was one of the stops on the Discovery Expedition made to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark's trek to reach the Pacific Ocean. Beginning in January 2003, a group ranging in age from 17 to 70 left Monticello, Pennsylvania and made a stop at Chinook Park on November 15, 2005. The group originally planned to travel only as far as Great Falls, Mont., but after arriving, they decided to proceed and complete the entire route to the Pacific. Despite the changes to the Columbia’s riverbank from dams and development, the group was able to stay at 17 of the 27 Lewis and Clark encampments in Oregon and Washington on their journey, including this park at Chinook Point.

The photo above shows participants on the re-enactment voyage preparing to continue their voyage downstream towards Long Beach.
