This replaces the History of Muzzy Field geocache that used to be here until renovations were done to the field and the fence was taken down.
This is a historic gem of a ball park , opened in 1914, it is one year younger than Fenway Park and one year old than Wrigley Field. Probably the most famous player who played here was Babe Ruth, as a member of the 1919 and 1920 Red Sox. & It has been documented that only two players have ever hit home runs from home plate, over the fence, over the trees and into the brook behind the ballpark. ;One was Babe Ruth and one was Mo Vaughn, as a player on the Seton Hall baseball team. Muzzy Field was home to the the minor league Red Sox from 1973 to 1983, with players such as Wade Boggs, Jim Rice and Fred Lynn and other notables playing here. ;Now the ballpark is home to the Bristol Blues, a collegiate team. There are also American Legion games played here and local schools have their baseball and football championships here. There is a good book written by Douglas Malan about Muzzy Field if you are interested in reading more about this ball park. This is a nano, bring a pen. Stealth is needed, especially during game times. Don"t park on the main Street near the park, there is a side parking lot within a few hundred yards to park in.< Nearby is a statue of The Hiker;, a monument erected in 1929 to commemorate the soldiers in the Spanish Wars 1898-1902. DO NOT DO THIS CACHE AFTER DARK. PLEASE REPLACE CC CAREFULLY.
