The 2016 Cache Your Way program is over but the cache remains for the fun of it!
About the Site
The Hickory Grove Highlands has an interpretive trail and a solar lit trail. For a new hiking experience, try hiking at night! The Lyons Prairie & Marsh has 299.5 acres and has the distinction of being named as an Illinois State Nature Preserve.
If you are up for a longer hike, there is a trail extension that will take you to the Silver Creek Conservation Area.
Cache Your Way Question
What summer resident bat on District sites can sometimes be found hanging from the leaves of shrubs at eye level?
Additional Information About the Bat
Newborn bats are born hairless. They will hang onto their mother with one foot and hang onto a perch with the other foot! At night, the mother will leave her young to feed. They will fly when they are about three to five weeks old and are weaned a few weeks later.
This bat is a solitary bat excepts during mating and migration.
