Geocache Description:

The Wellfleet Health and Conservation Department and Wellfleet Conservation Trust have placed a number of caches around Wellfleet to help locals and tourists alike make it out to some of Wellfleet’s many beautiful trails and recreational areas.

This trail is in an area owned by a number of entities- Wellfleet Conservation Trust, Conservation Commission, and, across the marsh, the state. This is the largest public conservation property on the outer Cape. The trail wanders through the pitch pine oak woods before hitting the salt marsh. A number of benches indicate beautiful overlooks to admire. Keep an eye and an ear out for wildlife and their sounds. A number of bird species frequent the woods and fiddler crabs rule the salt marsh portion of the trails. Make sure if you choose to follow the salt marsh portion of the trail system not to step on the fiddler crabs and to watch out for terrapin turtle nests in the sand!

Please stay on the trail! The cache is accessible without wandering into the underbrush where the vegetation does bite (mainly green briar and poison ivy). Also, being in New England, we advise you to check yourself for ticks after your geocaching adventure!
