House Mormont of Bear Island is an old and honorable house of the north in Westeros, sworn to House Stark of Winterfell. The Mormonts' seat is Bear Island, located in the Bay of Ice to the north-west of Winterfell. Due to lack of valuable resources on Bear Island, the Mormonts are a rather poor, yet still very proud house. Their sigil is a black bear on a green background, and their motto is "Here We Stand." House Mormont is one of the few houses to have an ancestral weapon made of Valyrian steel: a sword called Longclaw.
