Matewan is close to many caches on the Hatfield-McCoy Geotrail, the Hog Geo Art, and the River of Blood Geotrail.
As always we look forward to some geocaching stories and maybe trade some swag.
There will be a special door prize that you will not want to miss!
For those of you who have not been to Matewan in awhile, the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum is open weekends April-October. The area is not only rich in Hatfield-McCoy history, but also coal mining history. Further information, documentation, and artifacts can also be found at the Matewan Replica Depot Museum and Visitor Center located on the west side of town (as well as a geocache). Before or after our get together, we invite you to spend some time to learn about the area's history and of course, maybe cache a little, too.
At 1pm, there is going to be an event at the United Mine Worker's of America (UMWA) Building to dedicate a memorial to the miners. We invite you to attend if you wish.
Anyway, if you have no plans for August 6, we invite you to join us!
