Geocache Description:

Cool kid friendly container with lots of trinkets. Enjoy the treasure but be sure to put something in there for the next person. We frequent the beach in this area and have been meanining to put a cache here.

West Galveston Island was first known to world history in the 16th century from reports of Spanish soldier Cabeza de vaca. Who was shipwrecked on this island in 1528. The area was also visited by French explorer La Sale in 1685.

The Pirate Jean Lafitte made this site the operating base for his pirate fleet in 1815 or 1816. His pirate colony was called the Campeche. He had to fight the Karankawa Indians to establish this colony.
