Oconomowoc Golf History

The Oconomowoc Country Club was formed in 1896 by the area’s millionaires. The group bought the farm of George Seavern, remodeling the home, adding a ballroom and wide verandas that circled the building. They also purchased some of the neighboring Eckles’ estate and added an 18-hole golf course. At one time, elaborate horse shows were held there with members bringing their prize animals. The carriage ride was a long one out to the club for the Oconomowoc Lake community so J.W. Mariner arranged for the purchase of the property on Hwy P known as the Oconomowoc Golf Club. The financiers built an 18-hole course in 1908. The old Oconomowoc County Club got into some financial difficulty and was acquired by a group who renamed it Lac LaBelle Golf Club. A new clubhouse was built in 1959 and it still has an active membership today.
The Oconomowoc area currently has 4 active Golf Courses: Oconomowoc Golf Club (built in 1916), Lac LaBelle Golf Club (built in 1896), Paganica Golf Club (built in 1961) and Deer Trak Golf Club (built in 1986).
