Seasonal restrictions update. Access from Heyward Point Rd is closed from 29 August until 30 September (inclusive). Access from Aramoana to track junction is closed from 15 September until 30 November (inclusive). .

An historic route from Spit Beach to the edge of the cliffs overlooking the eastern end of Kaikai beach, where descent was made to the beach below by a steep path. The Jacobs Ladder began at the Heyward Point cliffs where some 200 feet of precipitous rock was ascended by a winding path.

Today the route leads up steep grassy slopes to cross a washed out and awkward gully to attain the bush covered ridge nearby. The last part of the ascent is a vertical climb up the ridge through the bush.

However, for the purposes of obtaining the cache there is a much more gentle and safe route on the Heyward Point track from the end of Heyward Point road or the route up from Aramoana.

You can view the historic route Jacob's Ladder

The cache is located 1m from the cliff edge within the DOC reserve.
