Geocache Description:

OAHT 1619: Town of Oconomowoc

This Geocache WAS part of the 2016 Oconomowoc Area Historical Tour:

Town of Oconomowoc

Before 1844 this township was part of Summit Township but was divided and the northern section became the Town of Oconomowoc.

The Territorial Senate representative for the Town of Oconomwoc in 1840 was John Rockwell, with his brother, David, in the Assembly. Up until 1846, Oconomowoc was part of Milwaukee County. Alex Randall and Harrison Reed wanted a separate county called Waukesha. The polls stayed open three days while wagon loads of roughnecks drove out from Milwaukee to sell votes for $1.00 plus a dinner. Oconomowoc voted to remain in Milwaukee County but lost.
