Mount Subasio rises up in isolation from the Apennines.
Its characteristic round shape and the presence of the Basilica of Assisi, which streches out along its slopes,make it an easily identifiable landmark on the Umbrian Plain.Around the mountain are really hidden 3 treasures of villages, a visit worthwhile ,so stroll along and enjoy the peacefull atmosphere around you.
San Giovanni:
Lungo la strada che collega Spello ad Assisi, tra Collepino ed Armenzano si trova il castello-borgo di San Giovanni. Si apre verso la vallata del Topino e alle spalle del paese si estende sulle pendici del Subasio la macchia di Pale che arriva fino ai prati sommitali del Monte. Nella chiesa del paese eretta, secondo la tradizione nel luogo dove San Francesco ha operato uno dei suoi miracoli, si trovano affreschi del 1600. English:
Along the way from Spello and Assisi, between Collepino and Armenzano is situated the village of San Giovanni. The castle and village are situated on the eastern slope of Mount Subasio.
St.Francis performed one of his many miracles in the Benedictine church of San Giovanni.
